Aaaaaaand my journey begins! I recently found out that I will be spending my summer (after training here in Jonesville) in Wyoming County, West Virginia! I will be at a school in Mullens with 3 other fellow staffers: Center Director Bryson, and two other first year staffers, Danielle and Victoria. In 5 days, we will leave training here on The Porch and head there to begin an amazing summer serving families in West Virginia!
We’ve been spending a lot of time in construction sessions and Appalachia history sessions here at training. It’s been great to brush up on what I know and learn a few news things along the way. As much as I love being here with all the other staffers, I am super sleep deprived and I cannot wait to head to Mullens and see my home for the summer!
I am thrilled to see what the summer has in store for me. Being back down here in the mountains and being surrounded by so many people who share this love of ASP is incredible. It’s no secret that I’ve struggled a lot this year at school. All I ever wanted to do what be back down here and that distracted me from fully enjoying and focusing on life at home. Of course I love being here, but this summer I want to learn to accept and enjoy my time no matter where I am, so therefore I won’t feel so lost when I return home. I miss everyone at home now as much as I miss ASP when I’m not here, so instead of focusing on what I’m missing, my goal is to focus on what I’m always gaining.
I plan to update my blog A LOT more than last year, so please keep following! Also, as soon as I learn my mailing address for the summer, I’ll post it here. I LOVE mail and especially care packages ☺
